👋 Welcome to Toku. Toku is your Employer of Record (EOR) in Romania. We employ you through the appropriate local Toku entity and manage the compliance, HR, payroll, and benefits administration connected to your employment. Your day-to-day work, goals, and role direction continue to come from the organization you support.
Your employment at a glance
| Item | What it means for you |
|---|---|
| Currency | Romanian leu (RON) |
| Payroll cycle | Monthly. Toku runs one payroll per month in Romania. |
| Standard working week | 40 hours (8 hours per day, 5 days per week) |
| Probation period | Up to 90 calendar days for executive roles; up to 120 calendar days for management roles |
| Annual leave | 20 working days statutory minimum |
📄 Your signed employment agreement governs your individual terms, including pay, working hours, probation, notice, and any custom arrangements. Mandatory local law also applies. If this guide and your agreement appear different, contact Toku before relying on the summary.
Pay schedule and payroll changes
You are normally paid monthly, on the last business day of the month. The standard monthly cutoff for payroll changes is generally the 10th, but the exact cutoff can vary by country and organization. Check the Toku: 2026 and 2027 Payroll Calendar and Deadlines or contact Toku before relying on a specific date.
You will receive a payslip for each payroll cycle showing your gross pay, required deductions, and net pay. Keep your bank, tax, and personal information current in Toku, and notify us promptly if anything changes.
Your employment terms and probation
- Toku issues a compliant local employment agreement for every hire. Romanian employment contracts must generally be in writing, in Romanian, signed before work starts, and registered in the employee registry.
- Indefinite-term contracts are the default. Fixed-term contracts may be used only where Romanian law permits and must include the required fixed-term conditions.
- Probation can be set up to 90 calendar days for executive roles and up to 120 calendar days for management roles. During or at the end of probation, either party may terminate by written notice without giving reasons and without a notice period.
- For telework or remote work arrangements, the employment agreement must include the required telework terms, including the place of work, working schedule, equipment, occupational health and safety requirements, and how the employer may verify work activity.
Working hours and overtime
Your normal working hours are stated in your signed employment agreement and may vary by role, schedule, or applicable collective agreement. Toku does not expect routine overtime. Do not work overtime or additional hours unless your manager has approved them in advance. Any overtime or additional-hours treatment follows your signed agreement and mandatory local law.
Leave entitlements
| Leave | Entitlement | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Annual leave | 20 working days statutory minimum, at full pay | Employer |
| Sick leave | Medical leave based on a medical certificate; employer generally covers the initial employer-paid period, with social insurance reimbursement rules applying afterward | Employer and social insurance, depending on leave type and duration |
| Maternity leave | 126 calendar days in total, typically split before and after birth | Social insurance, administered through payroll |
| Paternity leave | 10 working days, with an additional 5 working days available if the parent completes an infant care course | Employer/social insurance rules may apply depending on setup |
| Parental leave | Available until the child reaches age 2, or age 3 for a child with disabilities, with a state-funded allowance subject to statutory limits | Government |
| Caregiver / family care leave | Available in specific family and medical situations, subject to statutory conditions | Depends on leave type |
| Special leave | May apply for events such as marriage, childbirth, or bereavement if provided by law, collective agreement, contract, or internal policy | Employer, where paid leave applies |
Leave rules in Romania are detailed and depend on the type of leave and supporting documentation. Toku will confirm the correct handling for each leave request before payroll is processed.
ℹ️ Your employment agreement, Toku HRIS leave balance, and applicable local rules determine your exact entitlement. Contact Toku if the information shown in your account does not match your agreement or this guide.

Statutory benefits
Statutory (included through payroll and employer compliance): Romania's statutory system covers public pension, health insurance, income tax withholding, unemployment and work insurance coverage, and statutory leave entitlements. The employer's main statutory payroll cost is the work insurance contribution.
Additional Toku benefits
In Romania, Toku's standard supplemental benefit is Remote Health by SafetyWing. Review 🌍 Global Coverage: Remote Health by SafetyWing for current availability, coverage, eligibility, enrollment, and support information.
Stablecoin payroll and token grants
Where permitted by local law and enabled for your organization, Toku can support token grant administration and allow you to elect to receive a portion of your net pay in stablecoins. Availability depends on your country, your organization's program, and your individual compensation arrangements. These options are not guaranteed components of every employment package.
If stablecoin payroll is available to you, see Toku: Stablecoin Payroll Set Up. For token grant questions, use the Toku: Contact our Team for Support! to reach the Token Grant Administration team.
Annual tax documents
You can request an annual employment income and tax statement from payroll@toku.com. Under Article 81(2) of the Fiscal Code, the employer provides this document on request, showing your income, personal deductions and tax calculated and withheld. It is not a standardized annual form with a universal employee-delivery date. Toku will confirm the timing for your request and upload the employer-issued statement to Documents. Employer tax filings with ANAF are separate from delivery of your statement. See ANAF's Fiscal Code, Article 81.
Leaving Toku: resigning
Giving notice
Send a formal resignation letter to Toku, your legal employer, by uploading it to your Toku Documents or emailing customer-success@toku.com. Notify your manager too, and follow your signed employment agreement's notice period and any local signature or delivery requirements. Toku will help confirm the employment end date and any additional formalities.
Documents and final payroll
You will receive formal offboarding/termination documentation through DocuSign, with a copy uploaded to Documents. It will explain the applicable departure terms and final-pay arrangements. Review it and contact Toku if anything is unclear. Toku does not send a separate personalized general offboarding email; watch for DocuSign and any required documents delivered separately by Toku or the local provider.
Country documents: When employment ends, you should also receive an employment/seniority certificate (adeverință de vechime) confirming your employment history and relevant terms. This is provided without needing a separate request at departure and may arrive separately from Toku or the local provider. See the Romanian Labour Inspectorate's guidance.
Benefits when you leave
Benefits are managed by external carriers and providers. You may receive an email from each provider and/or see your coverage status updated in its portal or app. Confirm your exact coverage end date, dependent coverage, any continuation options, and relevant deadlines directly with the provider. Do not assume that coverage ends on your final working day or continues automatically.
For Remote Health coverage, check SafetyWing's communications or your member account. Review 🌍 Global Coverage: Remote Health by SafetyWing for your plan and contacts. Toku coordinates the employer-side offboarding; contact us if you need help resolving a missing or unclear provider update.
Your Toku account
You will retain access to your Toku account and employment documents after leaving. For help updating your email, resetting your password, or changing 2FA, email customer-success@toku.com.

Important
This guide is a general summary and does not replace your signed employment agreement, Toku policies, benefit plan documents, or applicable law. Your exact entitlements may vary based on your work location, tenure, role, collective agreement, or individual terms.
