We frequently assist clients and employees with work visas worldwide, ensuring a smooth and compliant process. This document outlines the most common work visas we support, expected timelines, and related fees, including both government-imposed charges and an estimate of additional service fees. ๐ณ Retainer & Payment Requirements
To initiate any immigration or visa support engagement, Toku requires a retainer payment before legal work can begin:
- Most Countries visa services: USD $2,000 (standard) | USD $1,500 per dependent
- USA visa services: USD $5,000 minimum (costs may exceed this depending on case complexity) This retainer is applied directly toward the total cost of your case, it is not an additional fee. If the final cost of your case exceeds the retainer, Toku will invoice for the remaining balance as the process progresses. We are unable to begin the legal process until the retainer is received.
Rush or expedited processing requests may incur additional costs and will be communicated upfront.

1.3 United States - TN (USMCA Professional)
Overview
- The TN classification lets Canadian and Mexican citizens work in the US in a professional role listed under the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA), such as engineer, scientist, computer systems analyst or management consultant.
- Most TN categories require a bachelor's degree (or the specific credential listed for that profession) and a job offer in that same professional role.
- TN status is granted for up to 3 years at a time and can be extended. TN is not a dual intent status, so employees planning a green card should raise this early.
How It Works
- Canadian citizens: no visa is needed. The employee applies for TN status at a US port of entry or pre-clearance location, presenting the support letter and documents we prepare.
- Mexican citizens: the employee must first obtain a TN visa at a US embassy or consulate, then present it at entry.
- Already in the US: a change of status or extension can be filed with USCIS on Form I-129.
Expected Timeline
- Support Letter and Document Preparation: 1-2 weeks

๐ฆ๐ช 5. United Arab Emirates - SHAMS Work Permit & Golden Visa
Overview
- UAE employment via Toku is structured through SHAMS (Sharjah Media City), a UAE free zone authority that sponsors work permits for Toku employees.
- Job titles must correspond to a role on the SHAMS designation list โ confirmed before the process begins.
- Three tracks depending on the employee's residency status:
- Standard Track: New arrivals without UAE residency require a full employment visa + SHAMS work permit
- Cancel & Re-apply Track: Employees already in the UAE on another free zone, investor, or employer-sponsored visa must cancel that visa before we can apply. SHAMS does not permit a work permit to sit on another zone's visa. Biometrics are not repeated. Medical still required
- Golden Visa Track: Employees who already hold a UAE Golden Visa, or who are on a dependent/spouse visa, only need a SHAMS work permit - no entry visa required
- The employee must be physically in the UAE before the application can be submitted, on a visit visa or visa on arrival as applicable
- Passports must have minimum 7 months' validity
- Entry requirements vary by nationality - some nationalities (e.g. India, Pakistan, Philippines) require an entry permit before travel; others (e.g. UK, EU, US, Canada) may enter visa-free and convert status in-country.
๐ NEW (June 2026) - Police Clearance Certificate for Indian nationals and other designated nationalities. Under a UAE federal requirement phased in from June 16, 2026, applicants of designated nationalities - including Indian nationals (in effect since June 16, 2026) โ must provide an attested Police Clearance Certificate (Good Conduct Certificate) as part of a new UAE entry permit / employment visa application. Additional nationalities are added on August 15 and November 15, 2026.
- Applying from your home country: the certificate is issued by your home-country authority (for India, via Passport Seva / the regional passport office or local police), then attested by the UAE Embassy in your country, with final attestation completed in the UAE.
- Already residing in the UAE: the certificate can be obtained locally, e.g. via the Dubai Police Police Clearance Certificate service or the Ministry of Interior. Plan for this step early โ obtaining and attesting the certificate can add days to several weeks to the timeline, and the visa application cannot be submitted without it. Toku will confirm the exact requirements for your case with our UAE immigration counsel at the start of the process.
